Located in Casa Linda, and without a lot of competition in the Cuban food world, Havana Café is pretty good. Good enough for our crew to give it an 8.5.
The pork special was tasty, and the black beans excellent. SH’s Cuban sandwich was “better than the one at Latin Deli”, but he hasn’t eaten at Jimmy’s. None descript place, with some Cuban art on the walls and Cuban owner. Not many people eating, so it didn’t have the feel of being part of the Cuban community (if there is such a thing in DFW). I understand the Farmers Market may have a Cuban food stand worth trying on weekends, and Yelp seems to like the horribly named C Senor. Cuban sandwiches can also be called a “mixto” and evidently adding lettuce or tomatoes is an unworthy Americanization. I agree.
As to Cuban food in general, Pollo con Arroz is the national dish, beans and rice the staple and it has lots of influences.
